Sheriff Country Season 2 Brings a Family Secret Back From the Dead

Mickey Fox is used to uncovering secrets in Edgewater.

She probably wasn't prepared for one involving her own mother.

Sheriff Country returns for Season 2 on October 9, with Morena Baccarin back as Sheriff Mickey Fox, the straight-shooting law enforcement officer responsible for protecting the same small Northern California town at the center of Fire Country.

Mickey spends her days investigating crimes and keeping order in Edgewater while navigating a family life that's often every bit as complicated as her cases.

Season 2 makes that considerably harder.

The previous season ended with Mickey discovering that DEA official Eva Santos is actually Maria Fox, the mother Mickey and her father Wes believed had died years ago.

Now Maria is back, and she hasn't returned simply to reconnect with her family.

She wants Mickey and Wes (W. Earl Brown), Mickey's ex-con father, to help the DEA take down a dangerous Bulgarian cartel that has made its way into Edgewater.

That leaves Mickey facing plenty of questions about why her mother disappeared, why her family was allowed to believe she was dead and whether she can trust the woman who's suddenly asking for their help.

Meanwhile, the investigation surrounding Fraley Horizons continues, and Mickey must balance those growing threats with her responsibilities as sheriff.

The new season also brings back Nathan Boone (Matt Lauria), Travis Fraley (Christopher Gorham) and Cassidy Campbell (Michele Weaver), while continuing the show's connections to the larger Fire Country universe.

Mickey has always believed protecting Edgewater means knowing whom she can trust.

Season 2 is about to make that considerably more complicated.
