Tyson Goes Beyond the Fighter in a New Netflix Documentary

Mike Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history.

But becoming “the baddest man on the planet” was only part of his story.

TYSON is a four-part Netflix documentary series examining the extraordinary rise, collapse and transformation of one of the most recognizable, and controversial, figures in sports history.

Told in large part through Tyson's own words, the series traces his journey from a chaotic childhood in Brooklyn to becoming heavyweight champion at just 20 years old and eventually the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

His success made him a global superstar.

His life outside the ring became just as public.

TYSON examines the darker chapters alongside the victories, including incarceration, addiction, financial struggles, personal controversies and the infamous Evander Holyfield fight that became one of boxing's most shocking moments.

The documentary also follows the decades that came afterward as Tyson attempted to rebuild his life and reconsider the legacy he created, eventually returning to the ring at age 58 for his 2024 fight against Jake Paul.

Directed by Floyd Russ, the series features rare and previously unseen material alongside interviews with Tyson, members of his family, friends, colleagues and others who witnessed different parts of his journey.

Rather than presenting Tyson simply as a boxing legend or reducing his life to its controversies, the documentary gives him an opportunity to confront both.

The victories.

The failures.

And the consequences that followed.
