About The Gilded Age

The Gilded Age Season 4 Comes With a Price for the Russells

Bertha Russell got what she wanted. Now her family has to live with the consequences.

HBO's The Gilded Age returns for Season 4 on November 1, continuing Julian Fellowes' drama about wealth, ambition and social power in late 19th-century New York.

The series has followed the battle between New York's established old-money families and ambitious newcomers determined to claim their own place at the top of society.

Few have pursued that goal more aggressively than Bertha Russell.

After years of challenging the old guard and pushing the Russell family higher into New York society, Bertha finally helped change the very world that once tried to keep her out.

But victory came at a cost.

Season 4 finds the Russell family dealing with the consequences of Bertha's ambition, while across the street, Agnes van Rhijn sees an opportunity to reclaim some of the position and influence she has lost.

The younger generation is changing too.

Marian Brook begins forging a new path for herself, while Peggy Scott faces another kind of social challenge as she works to gain acceptance from her future in-laws.

As relationships shift and old rules begin giving way to a new era, everyone is discovering that getting what you want doesn't necessarily make life easier.

In a world where status can be won and lost with a single mistake, ambition remains dangerous.

And among New York's elite, you should always be careful what you wish for.

The Gilded Age Season 4 premieres Sunday, November 1 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and streams on HBO Max.  Also, stream on Prime Video with a HBO Max subscription.
