How far would you go to become part of a world that was never meant to let you in?
Netflix's The Doll offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Polish novel by Bolesław Prus, following a self-made merchant whose ambition and obsession pull him toward a world of wealth, status and aristocratic privilege.
At the center of the story is Stanisław, a determined businessman who has fought his way up the social ladder but still finds himself on the outside of the elite society he desperately wants to enter.
Then there's Izabela.
Strong-willed and born into the aristocracy, Izabela represents everything Stanisław desires — and his growing infatuation with her becomes intertwined with his determination to conquer the social world she inhabits.
But Izabela is fighting a battle of her own.
Rather than simply accepting the life expected of her, she wants to escape the restrictions of aristocratic society and determine her own future in a world that's rapidly changing around her.
Their attraction brings two very different ambitions together, creating a complicated relationship shaped by class, wealth, obsession and the desire for freedom.
For Stanisław, getting everything he's worked for may still not give him the one thing he wants most. For Izabela, privilege doesn't necessarily mean freedom.
And somewhere between the two is a relationship that could change — or consume — them both.
The Doll premieres September 16, 2026 on Netflix.
