But the empire is facing one of its most difficult periods yet.

Following the devastating Sardinian War, Emperor Franz (Philip Froissant) returns home deeply affected by the thousands of soldiers lost under his command.

The weight of those deaths leaves him struggling with guilt and emotional turmoil, creating an increasingly painful distance between himself and Elisabeth.

She desperately wants to support her husband.

But as she fights to preserve their marriage, she's also determined to advocate for the changes she believes the empire needs.

Meanwhile, Franz's brother Maximilian (Johannes Nussbaum) embarks on an extraordinary journey of his own, traveling with his wife Marie (Josephine Thiesen) to Mexico, where he is preparing to take the imperial throne.

As political tensions spread across Europe and beyond, Elisabeth finds herself caught between the responsibilities of her position and the possibility of finally choosing a life on her own terms.
