Newlyweds Proves It’s Never Too Late to Fall in Love

Jeanie and James just met.

Now they're married.

Naturally.

Téa Leoni and Tim Daly star in Newlyweds, a new NBC comedy about two very different people who unexpectedly find love later in life — and decide there's no reason to waste time figuring out what comes next.

Leoni plays Jeanie, a free-spirited woman whose spontaneous approach to life couldn't be more different from James, a recently divorced, buttoned-up professor played by Daly.

When James meets Jeanie, he's immediately interested and asks her to dinner.

One whirlwind courtship later, they're married.

That's when the real relationship begins.

James quickly discovers that marrying Jeanie also means becoming part of her sprawling and eccentric collection of family and friends. Jeanie, meanwhile, has to find her place inside James' considerably more structured world.

And then there's his ex-wife.

Jamie Lee Curtis, who co-created the series with Gail Lerner, appears in a recurring role as James' former spouse — adding another layer to a marriage that's already figuring things out as it goes.

The premise has an especially fun real-life connection: Leoni and Daly met while starring together on Madam Secretary, began dating and eventually married in 2025.

Their fictional relationship moves considerably faster.

Newlyweds isn't about two twenty-somethings trying to figure out adulthood. It's about two people who've already lived complicated lives discovering that starting over doesn't necessarily require starting from scratch.

They just met.

They just married.

Now they have to figure out what they actually signed up for.

Newlyweds premieres Friday, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC, with episodes streaming the following day on Peacock.
