NCIS: Origins Season 3 Brings Mark Harmon Back as Gibbs

Mark Harmon isn't just narrating Gibbs' past anymore.

He's stepping back into the story.

NCIS: Origins returns for Season 3 on October 6, with Harmon reprising his iconic role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs throughout the season as a new present-day mystery connects directly to Gibbs' early years at Camp Pendleton.

The series normally takes audiences back to the early 1990s, with Austin Stowell playing a young Gibbs at the beginning of his career as a special agent.

Working under the legendary Mike Franks, Gibbs becomes part of the Camp Pendleton team that helps shape the agent longtime NCIS fans eventually come to know.

Until now, Harmon has largely served as the voice guiding viewers through those memories.

Season 3 changes that.

The present-day Gibbs is pulled out of his peaceful retirement in Alaska when people and events from his past suddenly catch up with him, launching a mystery that will unfold throughout the entire season.

At the same time, the story returns to 1992, where the Camp Pendleton team races to rescue a kidnapped Randy, while young Gibbs and Lala deal with the complicated aftermath of their kiss.

That creates two connected Gibbs stories playing out decades apart — one showing the events that helped shape him and another revealing that some pieces of his past may never have truly stayed there.

Mark Harmon played Gibbs for 18 seasons on NCIS.

Now he's back to confront a chapter of the character's history that apparently isn't finished yet.
