Assane Diop was ready to leave Lupin behind.
Someone else apparently wasn't.
Omar Sy returns as the gentleman thief in Lupin Part 4, picking up four years after the events of Part 3 with Assane still serving time in prison.
Inspired throughout his life by the fictional master thief Arsène Lupin, Assane has spent years using disguises, elaborate schemes and impossible heists to outsmart his enemies.
But now he wants out.
Assane plans to finish his sentence and keep a promise to his son: when he's free, they'll travel to Senegal and reconnect with their family.
Then someone using the name “Lupin” announces a series of simultaneous museum robberies.
Despite heightened security, the heists actually happen.
And all the evidence points directly to Assane.
Even more troubling, surveillance footage appears to show him inside one of the museums during a robbery that leaves Captain Belkacem seriously injured.
There's just one obvious problem:
Assane is supposed to be in prison.
Someone is copying his methods, using his identity and making sure he takes the blame.
To clear his name and discover who's behind the new Lupin, Assane has little choice but to do the one thing he promised himself he wouldn't do again.
Escape.
The gentleman thief may have wanted to retire.
But first, he'll have to steal his own identity back.
All eight episodes of Lupin Part 4 begin streaming October 23 on Netflix.
