Best Medicine Season 2 Brings Dr. Martin Best Back to Port Wenn

The doctor is back in, assuming he's allowed to keep practicing medicine.

Best Medicine returns for Season 2 with Josh Charles back as the brilliant but notoriously blunt Dr. Martin Best.

Based on the popular British series Doc Martin, Best Medicine follows Martin after he abruptly leaves his successful career as a Boston surgeon and becomes the general practitioner in Port Wenn, a quirky coastal fishing village in Maine where he spent summers as a child.

There's just one problem: Martin isn't exactly a people person.

His blunt, sometimes downright rude bedside manner quickly puts him at odds with the town's eccentric residents. Despite desperately wanting to be left alone, Martin repeatedly finds himself pulled into their medical problems, personal feuds and everyday chaos.

Behind his difficult personality, however, Martin is dealing with problems of his own, including a debilitating phobia of blood that threatens the career he's spent his life building.

And that becomes particularly important in Season 2.

After Martin's secret was exposed, the new season finds him dealing with scrutiny from the state medical board and fighting to protect his ability to practice medicine. His personal life isn't getting any simpler either, with his complicated relationship with schoolteacher Louisa Gavin (Abigail Spencer) facing some new obstacles.

Martin Clunes, who starred as the original doctor in Doc Martin, is also set to return as Martin's father, Robert Best, following his Season 1 appearance.

For someone who came to Port Wenn hoping for a quieter life, Martin keeps discovering that this little town has other plans for him.

Best Medicine Season 2 premieres Tuesday, September 22 at 8/7c on FOX.
