A Tale of Two Cities Brings Dickens’ Classic Story to MGM+

Love, loyalty and sacrifice collide in a new adaptation of one of Charles Dickens' most famous stories.

MGM+'s A Tale of Two Cities reimagines the literary classic as a limited series starring Kit Harington as Sydney Carton, François Civil as Charles Darnay and Mirren Mack as Lucie Manette.

Set against growing political unrest between Britain and France, the story begins with Lucie receiving an unexpected message from Paris that turns her life upside down.

Her father, whom she believed had been dead for nearly 20 years, may actually be alive.

Her potential connection to him is Charles Darnay, an idealistic French émigré carrying news from Paris. But before he can help Lucie uncover the truth, Darnay is arrested and charged with treason.

Desperate for answers, Lucie turns to Sydney Carton, a brilliant but troubled young lawyer who may be Darnay's best chance at freedom.

What begins as a search for Lucie's missing father soon becomes much more complicated as Lucie finds herself caught between Darnay and Carton, two men who look remarkably alike but couldn't be more different.

Their lives become increasingly intertwined as political tensions rise, eventually pulling them toward the turmoil surrounding the French Revolution and a story shaped by love, family, tragedy and sacrifice.

Based on Dickens' classic novel, A Tale of Two Cities explores what people are willing to risk for those they love and whether sacrifice can ultimately become a path to redemption.
