Wild Horse Nine Sends Two CIA Agents Into a Dangerous Game of Secrets

Chris and Lee have spent decades keeping secrets for the CIA.

Now they're about to discover how many they've been keeping from each other.

Wild Horse Nine stars John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell as two veteran CIA operatives whose latest assignment takes them far from the political turmoil unfolding in Chile during one of the country's most consequential moments in history.

It's 1973, and tensions are rising in the months leading up to the military coup that will overthrow Chilean President Salvador Allende.

While political forces gather on the mainland, longtime partners Chris (Malkovich) and Lee (Rockwell) are dispatched from Santiago to the remote shores of Easter Island by their CIA bureau chief, MJ (Steve Buscemi).

Surrounded by the island's famous stone statues and seemingly removed from the dangers of their work, the two men find themselves confronting something neither can easily escape:

Their own pasts.

Chris is nearing the end of a career spent carrying out covert operations around the world. As he reflects on the decisions he's made and the people affected by them, questions of guilt, loyalty and morality begin weighing heavily on him.

Lee, meanwhile, remains fiercely loyal to his longtime partner.

But he's also carrying out instructions from MJ that could place him directly at odds with the man he's spent years protecting.

And neither agent is being entirely honest about why they're on the island.

Things become even more complicated when Chris develops an unexpected connection with two rebellious students, played by Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas, whose presence threatens to disrupt the already fragile situation.

As hidden motives begin surfacing, the friendship between Chris and Lee is tested by the very secrets that have defined their lives.

Written and directed by Martin McDonagh, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Banshees of Inisherin, Wild Horse Nine blends dark humor, political intrigue and an intimate story about two men whose complicated friendship has survived decades of morally questionable work.

The film explores what happens when people who've spent their lives operating in the shadows finally begin questioning the choices that brought them there.

Chris and Lee have survived dangerous assignments, shifting political alliances and years of secrets.

But their greatest test may be deciding how far they're willing to go for each other.
