Wicker Turns an Unusual Marriage Into Village Chaos

She couldn't find the right husband.

So she had one made.

Olivia Colman stars in Wicker, an unconventional romantic comedy about an ostracized fisherwoman who has grown tired of being judged by the people in her small seaside village.

Single, independent and perpetually mocked by her neighbors, the Fisherwoman has little interest in following the traditions expected of her, particularly when it comes to marriage.

Then she comes up with another option.

She approaches the village basketmaker, played by Peter Dinklage, and commissions him to create something rather unusual:

A husband made entirely from wicker.

The result is the Wicker Husband, played by Alexander Skarsgård.

But instead of simply being a strange creation, her new husband proves remarkably kind, devoted and soulful, and their unexpected relationship begins giving the Fisherwoman something her human neighbors never did.

Happiness.

Unfortunately, the village doesn't handle that particularly well.

Their unconventional romance sparks fascination, jealousy and outrage among the townspeople, throwing the community's ideas about sex, marriage and what a relationship is supposed to look like into chaos.

Also starring Elizabeth Debicki, Wicker is written and directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson and adapted from Ursula Wills' short story The Wicker Husband.

The Fisherwoman's neighbors spent years telling her she needed a man.

They probably should have been more specific.

Wicker arrives exclusively in theaters October 23, 2026.
