Whalefall Traps a Grieving Diver Inside the Impossible

One hour of oxygen. One enormous whale. And absolutely nowhere to go.

Whalefall stars Austin Abrams as Jay Gardiner, a grieving young man whose search for his father leads to a fight for survival unlike anything he could have imagined.

After the death of his father, played by Josh Brolin, Jay dives into the waters off California's central coast hoping to recover his remains and find some sense of closure.

Instead, he's swallowed alive by a massive sperm whale.

Trapped inside the creature with approximately one hour of oxygen remaining, Jay has to somehow find a way out before his air supply disappears.

But surviving isn't simply a physical challenge.

The claustrophobic nightmare forces Jay to confront the complicated relationship he shared with his father and reconsider the lessons he spent years resisting. As time runs out, those same lessons may become the very things that keep him alive.

Based on Daniel Kraus' 2023 novel, Whalefall combines survival thriller, family drama and an almost unimaginable scenario into a story about grief, fathers and sons, and discovering how badly you want to live when escape seems impossible.
