Toy Story 5 Puts the Toys Up Against Technology

Woody and Buzz have faced plenty of challenges over the years. This time, their biggest competition may be a screen.

Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5 brings Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of the gang back for another adventure, but playtime is changing.

A new tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee, arrives in Bonnie's life with some very different ideas about how kids should spend their time.

Suddenly, the toys aren't simply competing for attention with other toys.

They're competing with technology.

As Lilypad begins changing Bonnie's world, Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack) and their friends find themselves confronting a question that feels very different from the challenges they've faced before:

What happens to toys when kids would rather play with a screen?

The story brings the franchise's longtime themes of growing up and changing childhood into the modern era, where traditional toys increasingly share playtime with tablets, apps and other digital entertainment.

Directed by Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton and co-directed by Kenna Harris, Toy Story 5 also brings back composer Randy Newman, who returns to score his fifth Toy Story feature.

Woody and the gang have survived moving houses, getting lost, being replaced and watching their kids grow up.

Now they're facing something entirely new.

Toy meets tech and the battle for playtime begins.
