The Weight Sends Ethan Hawke on a Deadly Hunt for Freedom

For Samuel Murphy, freedom has a price and it's measured in gold.

Ethan Hawke stars in The Weight, a Depression-era thriller set in 1933 Oregon, where a desperate father finds himself trapped between a brutal prison system and an offer that may be his only chance to get back to his daughter.

After being separated from his child, Samuel Murphy is sent to a harsh labor camp overseen by Warden Clancy, played by Russell Crowe.

Then Clancy makes him an offer.

Join a dangerous group of prisoners, smuggle gold out of a remote mine and successfully make it through the wilderness, and Samuel can earn his freedom.

For a father desperate to reunite with his daughter, it's an opportunity that's almost impossible to refuse.

But getting the gold is only part of the problem.

Samuel finds himself surrounded by dangerous men whose motivations he can't completely trust, and as the journey becomes increasingly treacherous, betrayal begins threatening the crew from within.
