THE UPRISING

Andrew Garfield is leading an army against the King.

The Uprising takes audiences back to 14th-century England for a historical action drama inspired by the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, when ordinary people rose up against the power of the Crown.

Garfield stars as Ploughman, a man who becomes the leader of a growing rebellion against the rule of King Richard II. With England already suffering through war, inequality and the aftermath of the Black Death, anger among the country's working people is reaching a breaking point.

Soon, that anger becomes an uprising.

Ploughman brings together an army of ordinary people willing to challenge the King's forces in a fight for justice, survival and a future in which they are no longer powerless against those who rule them.

The film draws from the real events surrounding the Peasants' Revolt while also connecting the rebellion to the stories and ideas that would help shape the legend of Robin Hood.

Written and directed by Paul Greengrass, The Uprising also stars Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman and Katherine Waterston.

At its center is a familiar idea: what happens when people who believe they have nothing left to lose finally decide to fight back?

For Ploughman and his growing army, taking on the King could give them the justice they've been denied or cost them everything.
