THE ODYSSEY

The Odyssey Brings Christopher Nolan’s Epic Journey Home

Odysseus helped win the Trojan War.

Getting home may prove to be a much greater challenge.

Christopher Nolan brings one of the most famous stories in Greek mythology to the screen with The Odyssey, an epic adventure starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the legendary king of Ithaca.

After the fall of Troy, Odysseus sets out to return to his homeland, where his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) await his return.

But the journey is anything but straightforward.

What should have been a voyage home becomes a years-long struggle across dangerous seas and unfamiliar lands, where Odysseus encounters forces far beyond anything he faced on the battlefield.

Gods, monsters and supernatural dangers stand between him and the people he loves.

Along the way, Odysseus must survive encounters with the terrifying Cyclops Polyphemus, resist the deadly songs of the Sirens and confront the mysterious Calypso, whose presence becomes another obstacle in his desperate attempt to return home.

Every challenge tests his strength, intelligence and determination, forcing him to rely on more than the skills that made him a legendary warrior.

Meanwhile, back in Ithaca, Penelope and Telemachus face their own uncertainty as the years pass without knowing whether Odysseus will ever return.

Based on Homer's ancient Greek epic poem, The Odyssey features an ensemble cast that also includes Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Samantha Morton.

Written and directed by Nolan, the film was shot using IMAX 70mm film technology, bringing the sweeping landscapes, massive battles and mythological world of ancient Greece to the screen on an extraordinary scale.

But beneath the spectacle is a deeply personal story about a man who has survived war and must now endure an even longer struggle to return to the life he left behind.

Odysseus has faced armies, gods and monsters.

All he wants is to make it home.

Following its theatrical release on July 17, 2026, The Odyssey becomes available for digital purchase November 17 on Prime Video. A Prime membership is not required to purchase and watch the film.
