Then everything changes.

Sense and Sensibility brings Jane Austen's beloved 1811 novel back to the screen with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles leading a new adaptation about sisterhood, love and learning to navigate a future you didn't choose.

After the death of their father, the three Dashwood sisters and their widowed mother are forced to leave their comfortable Sussex estate and adjust to a considerably more modest life in the English countryside.

For the two eldest sisters, that upheaval also brings romance.

Elinor approaches life and love with restraint, practicality and a determination to keep her emotions under control.

Marianne is almost her complete opposite, passionate, impulsive and unwilling to settle for anything less than the kind of love she's imagined.

Both will discover that the heart doesn't necessarily cooperate with either approach.

As relationships develop and expectations collide with reality, the sisters experience love, disappointment and heartbreak while relying on the bond between them to navigate a world where their choices, particularly as women, are often limited by circumstances beyond their control.

Directed by Georgia Oakley from a screenplay by Diana Reid, the film also stars Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, George MacKay and Fiona Shaw.

More than two centuries after Austen published the novel, its central conflict remains surprisingly familiar:
