Sacrifice Turns a Charity Gala Into a Fight for Survival

Chris Evans came to a charity gala looking for a comeback.

Getting thrown into a volcano wasn't supposed to be part of it.

Sacrifice stars Evans as Mike Tyler, a struggling action star going through an existential crisis when he attends a star-studded environmental fundraiser filled with celebrities, billionaires and plenty of promises about changing the world.

Hosted by billionaire Ben Bracken (Vincent Cassel) and his wife Gloria (Salma Hayek Pinault), the event unfolds inside a Greek mine and looks like another glamorous night where the rich and powerful gather around a good cause.

Then Joan arrives.

Played by Anya Taylor-Joy, Joan is the leader of a radical group that takes the gala hostage because they believe the world is just three days away from an extinction-level event.

According to their beliefs, there's only one way to stop it:

Three people must be sacrificed to a nearby volcano.

Suddenly, Mike and the other guests find themselves caught between people completely devoted to their beliefs and a ritual that could cost them their lives.

Directed by Romain Gavras and co-written with Will Arbery, Sacrifice mixes dark comedy, thriller and mythology while exploring the difference between publicly performing concern for the world and genuinely believing strongly enough in something to act.

As the increasingly bizarre night unfolds, the lines between faith and fanaticism, performance and sincerity, and salvation and sacrifice begin to disappear.

Mike Tyler wanted another chance to become a hero.

He probably wasn't expecting the role to be this literal.

Sacrifice begins streaming October 16, 2026 on Netflix in the United States and France.
