Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the new supernatural romantic thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, based on a story developed by Shyamalan and bestselling author Nicholas Sparks.
Gyllenhaal plays Tate Gordon, a New York architect struggling to rebuild his life following a psychiatric stay and the devastating loss of his sister.
Looking for a fresh start, Tate travels to Cape Cod to design a summer home for his best friend. While staying at a historic bed and breakfast, he meets Wren, a mysterious young woman played by Phoebe Dynevor.
Their unexpected connection begins pulling Tate out of the carefully controlled life he's created for himself.
But this is an M. Night Shyamalan story.
As Tate grows closer to Wren, he becomes caught in a deadly mystery surrounding the coastal town and begins questioning everything he believes about life, death and the woman he's falling for.
Is Wren exactly who she appears to be? Or is something else connecting Tate's grief, his new relationship and the strange events unfolding around him?
Remain represents an unusual collaboration between Shyamalan and Sparks, with each creating a separate version of the same original story.
The movie also stars Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty and Jay O. Sanders, with longtime Shyamalan collaborator James Newton Howard composing the score.
Part love story, part supernatural mystery, Remain brings together two storytellers known for very different kinds of emotional twists.
