Pendulum Turns a Healing Retreat Into a Psychological Nightmare

Patrick and Abigail came to New Mexico hoping to heal.

Instead, they may have walked into something far more dangerous.

Pendulum stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor in a psychological horror thriller about a married couple whose search for peace leads them into a mysterious world where faith, manipulation and paranoia become increasingly difficult to separate.

After experiencing a traumatic event, Patrick (Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail (Dynevor) travel to a secluded new-age retreat in New Mexico, hoping its unconventional spiritual practices can help them rebuild their lives.

For Patrick, the goal is simple.

He wants his wife to feel like herself again.

But shortly after arriving, the couple begins having very different experiences.

Abigail finds herself drawn to the retreat's charismatic leader, Ella Rose (Jacki Weaver), whose teachings and unusual methods appear to offer the emotional healing she's been searching for.

Patrick isn't nearly as convinced.

As Abigail becomes increasingly involved with the group, Patrick grows suspicious of Ella Rose and the influence she seems to have over his wife.

What initially appears to be a peaceful spiritual community begins feeling more like something neither of them fully understands.

And Patrick starts questioning everything.

Are the retreat's practices genuinely helping Abigail overcome her trauma?

Or is Ella Rose using the couple's vulnerability to draw them into something far more sinister?

As Patrick's fear and paranoia intensify, even his own judgment becomes difficult to trust.

The more desperately he tries to protect Abigail, the more he risks pushing her away.

And as the boundaries between reality, belief and manipulation begin to blur, Patrick must confront an increasingly terrifying possibility.

Is he losing his wife to a cult or losing his grip on reality?

Written and directed by Mark Heyman, with filmmaker Darren Aronofsky among its producers, Pendulum also stars Norman Reedus.

The film explores the psychological vulnerability that can follow trauma and the dangerous uncertainty of placing trust in someone who promises to make everything better.

Patrick brought Abigail to the retreat hoping they could find their way back to each other.

Now he must figure out what's real before they lose each other completely.

Pendulum arrives exclusively in theaters January 1, 2027.
