MADDEN

Madden Tells the Story of the Man Who Changed Football Forever

John Madden won a Super Bowl.

Then he became the voice of football.

And somehow, he turned his name into one of the most recognizable brands in video game history.

Madden stars Nicolas Cage as John Madden in a biographical drama exploring the remarkable life of the legendary NFL coach, broadcaster and personality whose influence reached far beyond the football field.

The story follows Madden's rise alongside Al Davis, played by Christian Bale, the ambitious and unconventional owner of the Oakland Raiders.

Together, the two helped transform the Raiders into one of professional football's most recognizable franchises, culminating in a victory in Super Bowl XI.

But Madden's story didn't end when he walked away from coaching.

It was only getting started.

After retiring from the sidelines, Madden reinvented himself as a television commentator, bringing his larger-than-life personality, unmistakable enthusiasm and extraordinary understanding of football into millions of American homes.

For an entire generation, John Madden became the voice of Sunday football.

Then came another unexpected chapter.

In 1988, Madden partnered with Electronic Arts on a football video game that would eventually become Madden NFL, one of the most successful sports gaming franchises ever created.

What began as a project to bring realistic football strategy into people's homes became a cultural phenomenon, introducing new generations to Madden's name long after his coaching career ended.

Directed by David O. Russell, the film also explores Madden's lifelong friendships and his relationship with his wife, Virginia, whose support remained central to his journey.

The cast includes Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller, John Mulaney and Shane Gillis, alongside Cage and Bale.

Madden celebrates a man whose love for football carried him through three extraordinary careers — coach, broadcaster and video game icon.

He helped build a championship team.

He taught millions how to understand the game.

And he gave generations of fans a way to play it themselves.

Football wouldn't be football without Madden.

Madden begins streaming globally November 18, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video.
