KLARA AND THE SUN

Klara and the Sun Finds Humanity Through an Artificial Friend

Klara was created to be someone's companion.

She may become something much more.

Jenna Ortega stars in Klara and the Sun, director Taika Waititi's adaptation of the bestselling novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro.

Set in a future transformed by technology and genetic engineering, Klara is an Artificial Friend, an android designed to provide companionship to children growing up in an increasingly isolated world.

Klara waits for someone to choose her.

Then she meets Josie, played by Mia Tharia.

The connection between them is immediate.

Josie is a young girl struggling with serious health problems and living in a world where scientific advancements have created deep divisions between people. Her relationship with her mother, played by Amy Adams, is complicated by grief, fear and everything their family has already lost.

Klara enters their lives with something considerably simpler:

Curiosity, loyalty and an unwavering desire to help.

As Klara becomes part of the family, her innocent way of seeing the world begins changing the people around her, even as she tries to understand emotions, relationships and what it truly means to care about another person.

The film also stars Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne.

At its heart, Klara and the Sun turns a science-fiction story about artificial intelligence into a much more human question.

If something artificial can learn to love us, what might it teach us about loving each other?

Klara and the Sun arrives exclusively in theaters October 23, 2026.
