For years, people have entered The Further.

Insidious: Out of the Further introduces a new family to the supernatural horror franchise while expanding the mythology surrounding The Further, the nightmarish realm of lost souls and demons that has haunted the series from the beginning.

Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the same house where she grew up.

Then Gemma discovers she has an unusual ability.

She can travel into The Further.

At first, that alone is terrifying enough. But when an evil presence begins targeting her, Gemma discovers that her connection to the supernatural realm works differently from anything we've seen before.

She doesn't simply cross over.

She can bring whatever is inside The Further back into the real world.

Once the demons realize what Gemma is capable of, her gift becomes a doorway, giving the entities trapped on the other side something they've never had before:

A way out.

The film also brings back Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier, reconnecting the new story with one of the franchise's most recognizable characters as Gemma attempts to understand a power that could completely change the relationship between our world and The Further.

Directed by Jacob Chase, Out of the Further takes the franchise beyond another haunted-family story by asking what happens when the barrier separating the living from the dead stops working in only one direction.

The Further used to be somewhere you were afraid to enter.

Now you have to worry about what's coming out.
