Heartland Sends Jessica Chastain Into Nashville’s Dark Side

Misty Jones left Nashville 20 years ago.

It takes a missing young woman to bring her back.

Jessica Chastain stars in Heartland as Misty Jones, a former country music legend who walked away from the spotlight and disappeared into a life of seclusion.

Once known as country music's “queen of mean,” Misty built a reputation for being talented, unpredictable and completely uninterested in whether people liked her.

Now her 22-year-old niece Charlie Heart is following in her footsteps as a rising country star.

Then Charlie disappears.

Knowing how quickly time can run out when someone goes missing, Misty returns to Nashville determined to find her niece before the disappearance becomes another media spectacle.

But the city she left behind has changed.

Misty's search takes her beyond the stages and bright lights of Nashville and into a darker world surrounding the music business, where everyone seems to have secrets and nobody is quite what they appear to be.

Potential suspects include Charlie's boyfriend Jace (Ross Lynch) and her manager Roy Combs (Garrett Hedlund), but finding the truth means Misty will also have to confront pieces of her own past she'd rather leave buried.

Directed by Shana Feste, Heartland mixes country music with film noir, turning a missing-person mystery into a story about a complicated woman returning to an industry, and a city, she thought she'd left behind.

Chastain performs her own music in the film, alongside a soundtrack featuring original performances from the cast and country artists including Jennifer Nettles, Margo Price and Carly Pearce.

Misty came back to Nashville looking for Charlie.

What she finds may explain why she left in the first place.

Heartland begins streaming November 13, 2026 on Netflix.
