About Gentle Monster

Gentle Monster Forces Léa Seydoux to Question Everything She Knows About Her Husband

Lucy thought moving to the countryside would give her family a fresh start.

Then the police showed up at her door.

Gentle Monster stars Léa Seydoux as Lucy, a successful concert pianist whose seemingly ordinary family life is shattered by an accusation she never could have imagined.

After her husband Philip (Laurence Rupp) experiences severe burnout, Lucy agrees to relocate their family to a quiet country house, hoping the change of scenery will give him the opportunity to recover.

Away from the pressures of their previous life, the family hopes to slow down, reconnect and begin a new chapter together.

But they barely have time to settle in.

An early-morning police raid changes everything.

Philip is accused of a horrifying crime, leaving Lucy struggling to understand how the man she's built her life around could possibly be connected to something so disturbing.

Suddenly, the peaceful future she imagined begins falling apart.

As the investigation unfolds, Lucy finds herself caught between her love for her husband and the growing fear that she may not know him nearly as well as she believed.

Could the person she trusts most be hiding something unimaginable?

With her family's future uncertain and her young son depending on her, Lucy must navigate the emotional fallout while trying to determine what she can believe.

Every memory, conversation and assumption about her marriage becomes something she may need to reconsider.

And the more she questions, the harder it becomes to separate the man she loves from the person he's accused of being.

Written and directed by Marie Kreutzer, the filmmaker behind Corsage, Gentle Monster explores trust, manipulation and the devastating consequences of discovering that someone close to you may have been living a life you never understood.

The film also stars Jella Haase and Catherine Deneuve, bringing together an international cast for a psychological drama told largely through Lucy's perspective.

At its heart, Gentle Monster asks a deeply unsettling question.

How well can we ever truly know another person?

Lucy moved her family to the countryside hoping to save her marriage.

Now she must decide whether the man she married is someone she can still trust.

Following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Gentle Monster opens in select U.S. theaters October 30, 2026, before streaming on Netflix November 18 in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
