One brother chooses to fight for the British Crown.

The other joins the Patriot cause, serving as a young drummer boy whose music helps guide soldiers through the chaos of battle.

But the war means something different to everyone caught in it.

Alongside the brothers' story is that of an enslaved woman searching for freedom, whose struggle reveals a painful contradiction at the heart of the American Revolution.
