About Clayface

Clayface Turns a Hollywood Dream Into a Gotham Nightmare

Matt Hagen finally made it out of the streets of Gotham and into Hollywood.

Then one terrible act takes everything away.

Clayface brings one of Batman's most unusual villains to the big screen in a DC Studios horror thriller starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen.

Hagen begins as a Gotham street kid who beats the odds and becomes a rising Hollywood leading man.

His career comes crashing down when the actions of a local crime boss leave him horribly disfigured.

Abandoned by the people who helped build his career and desperate to reclaim the life he's lost, Matt agrees to undergo an experimental treatment that promises to restore his face.

At first, it works.

Then his body begins changing.

The treatment transforms Matt into something capable of reshaping itself like living clay, giving him extraordinary abilities while gradually destroying his ability to recognize the person he's becoming.

As his grip on reality begins slipping, grief and anger turn into an obsession with revenge.

Directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, Clayface approaches the longtime DC character through the lens of body horror and psychological thriller, turning his famous shape-shifting abilities into something considerably more disturbing.

The film also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll and Joshua James.

Different characters have carried the Clayface name throughout DC Comics history, but Matt Hagen remains one of the villain's best-known identities, a virtually indestructible shapeshifter capable of becoming almost anyone.

Matt wanted his old face back.

Instead, he became a man who can have any face except his own.

Clayface arrives exclusively in theaters October 23, 2026.
