About Children of Blood and Bone
Children of Blood and Bone Brings the World of Orïsha to Life
Magic once belonged to the people of Orïsha.
Then a king took it away.
Children of Blood and Bone brings Tomi Adeyemi's bestselling fantasy novel to the big screen in an epic adventure directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Thuso Mbedu stars as Zélie, a young woman living in a kingdom where magic has been violently stripped from her people and those who once possessed it have been forced to live under the rule of King Saran, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
But the magic isn't gone forever.
Zélie discovers there may be a way to restore what was stolen, sending her on a dangerous journey that could change Orïsha — and challenge the king's control over it.
She's joined by her brother and two unlikely allies:
The king's own children.
Princess Amari (Amandla Stenberg) turns against her father's brutal regime, while her brother Inan (Damson Idris) becomes caught between loyalty to his family and the forces beginning to reshape the kingdom.
Together, they embark on a quest to bring magic back to Orïsha before King Saran can stop them.
The world draws heavily from African mythology, with different groups of Maji possessing connections to powers ranging from water to light and darkness.
Based on the first novel in Adeyemi's Legacy of Orïsha trilogy, the film features a massive ensemble that also includes Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Tosin Cole, Regina King, Idris Elba and Viola Davis.
Zélie isn't simply fighting to gain power.
She's fighting to return something that never should have been taken from her people in the first place.
Children of Blood and Bone arrives exclusively in theaters and IMAX January 15, 2027.
