Animals Turns a Kidnapping Into a Web of Secrets

Mark and Abigail Kimball have built their lives around family, success and a carefully controlled public image.

One phone call threatens to destroy all of it.

Ben Affleck stars in Animals as Mark Kimball, a candidate for mayor of Los Angeles whose campaign is suddenly pushed aside when he and his wife, Abigail (Kerry Washington), receive devastating news:

Their son has been kidnapped.

The kidnappers want a ransom, leaving Mark and Abigail scrambling to raise the money while trying to bring their child home safely.

But the deeper they get into the crisis, the more complicated the situation becomes.

What begins as a desperate attempt to save their son pulls the couple into a web of deception, forcing them to make increasingly difficult choices while secrets surrounding their seemingly perfect life begin coming to the surface.

For Mark, the stakes extend beyond his family. As a mayoral candidate living under public scrutiny, every decision carries the potential to expose things that could destroy the future he's spent years building.

But none of that matters if they can't get their son back.

Affleck also directs and co-wrote the thriller, which uses Los Angeles as the backdrop for one family's worst night. The cast also includes Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Luis Gerardo Méndez and Adriana Paz.

Mark and Abigail thought they knew what they had to lose.

Now they're about to discover how much they're willing to sacrifice to get it back.

Animals arrives in select theaters and on Netflix October 9.
